Last year I started experimenting with coffee roasting using Kona beans, naturally, since I live on the Big Island. Mostly, I just wanted to work with my hands again and learn something new.

After a few decent garage roasts and plenty of advice from local friends, an idea started brewing. If I was going to create a small batch coffee brand, it had to tell a story.

That’s how Fabled Lines Coffee came to life.

Inspired by old fishermen swapping stories about the one that got away, each roast became part of a larger myth. The idea was simple: start the story on the back of the bag and finish it online.

Even the details became part of the storytelling, like the hidden fishing hook tucked into the wordmark. To bring the world to life, I experimented with AI-generated imagery to create slightly absurd, cinematic scenes of fishermen wrangling impossible sea creatures.

More than a packaging exercise, this became an experiment in building a brand people could experience. Something tactile, memorable, and just a little unexpected.
